The government of Columbia recently sent a health card with the letter “U” for gender to Searyl Atli Doty, the baby who was born at home in November to Kori Doty.
Searyl Atli Doty was identified as neither male nor female. Doty said British Columbia has refused to issue a birth certificate without gender included on it, but later on, the government sent a health card with letter “U” for gender, possibly meaning “UNDETERMINED” or “UNASSIGNED”
“I’m raising Searyl in such a way that until they have the sense of self and command vocabulary to tell me who they are, I’m recognizing them as a baby and trying to give them all the love and support to be the most whole person that they can be outside of the restrictions that come with the boy box and the girl box,” Doty told ABC News.
She would be considered as the first Canadian baby with medical card without a gender designation or probably the “U-gender baby”.
